No Walls between Blue States & Red States

INTRODUCTION:

Red States and Blue States in the United States of America

Perhaps never in the history of the United States has the people of this country been as closely united as they were shortly after the tragic events of 9-11. In that moment of tragedy possibilities and love was present everywhere.

Today, this country and mostly the same people who were united are more divided than almost any other time of history other than the Civil War and the Revolutionary War that gave birth to our nation. Taking a position that we are right or wrong in our views offers little more than an opportunity to be right or wrong.

A close look at the “bricks” and “mortar” that these walls are built with will reveal that they are composed of more than just political affiliations. There are points of view on race, religion, sex, aging, health care, social services, family structures, labor and corporations, war and peace and so much more that make up the “bricks” and “mortar” of these walls.

Tearing down those walls that we build each day would offer new opportunities, and new possibilities including some we cannot even dream of today. If we as a country tore down the red and blue “walls” that we have created and love were present what would be possible?

Questions:

1) If there were no red states or blue states what would it be like to listen to the radio and not hear talk radio hosts tear down the citizens of our country who hold an opposing view? How would your day be? What could the talent of these radio hosts be directed to that could make a difference to our community…to our country…in the world? What would listening to the radio be like if what was present was love?

2) If there were no red states or blue states what would be possible the next time a major natural disaster like Katrina took place? What would it be like to know that your community matters, that the community of another matters, that the community of everyone matters when disaster strikes? What would being a citizen of a country like that be for you, your children, your family?

3) If there were no red states or blue states what would health care look like? What would it look like if every child in this country had health care? What would that be like for you, for your family, for others?

How would it be like to look at a child who would have died and know that what you caused allowed them to live? How would you be at that moment?

4) If there were no red states or blue states what would your next family holiday or family reunion look like when you got together? What would you talk about if love was present?

5) What would the prosperity of our country look like if there were no red or blue states. What commerce could we bring to our country if we were united. What would it look like if everyone had a job that met their family’s needs? What could we do with that prosperity for our country, for the world?

6) If there were no red states or blue states what would be possible for the elderly? What would it be like if the elderly never had to worry about food or shelter or health care? What would be possible for you and your family? What would that make available for your life?

7) If there were no red states or blue states and everyone got an education that mattered what would that be like? What would that be like for your family? What future could your family create with that for themselves, for others, for the world?
